Design as a tool for young people to seek to live a profoundly spiritual and ecclesial experience of the mystery of Easter.
Young Easter Oberá (Pascua Joven Oberá in Spanish) is an annual impactful retreat—preceding Holy Week—for Catholic youth of the Diocese of Oberá, Misiones (Argentina). As with every year, it required defining a new adjustment to its branding, adapting to the changing times and the assigned theme of the year, which are in constant evolution, ensuring that each experience surpasses the previous one.
It wasn't just a change in visual aesthetics; it was a project of exploration, expression, and innovation. It was about capturing again the essence of the retreat, its vision, and its personality. This project aimed to use design as a tool for young people to seek a deeply spiritual and ecclesial experience of the mystery of Easter.
Each year, the theme of Young Easter is different, although always focused on the current issues faced by young people and the different moments of Holy Week. Therefore, the challenge was to rediscover its personality, vision, and overall experience.
It required developing a new communication strategy that could adapt to the schedule and the graphic elements needed for the retreat—such as social media posts, booklets, screen images (animations, song lyrics, themed backgrounds for talks), videos, and merchandising items. The strategy needed to be aligned with its values, reflecting a creative, innovative, and youthful approach.
The graphic work began with optimizing the versatility of the logo and using typographic elements to stand out in communication. Texts and images played a significant role in this, so implementing a typographic family with many variables, combined with two other typographic families, proved to be the best option. Additionally, it represented the versatility of the young participants attending the retreat and added greater impact to the message.
The carefully crafted editorial design allowed for the preparation of a booklet with informative content and activities intended for both coordinators and participants, making it appealing and useful for the young audience.
